INTRODUCTION

For over a decade, Peak Design has dominated the functional camera strap market with the Slide and Slide Lite—straps defined by their seatbelt-nylon durability and rapid adjustability. We’ve owned the Slide and Slide Lite pretty much since their release. We have also used the Micro Clutch, Cuff, Leash and Clutch products. So we are pretty well-versed in the Peak Design camera strap range.

In October 2025, the company pivoted by releasing the Form series.  Gone are the aluminium adjustment handles and seatbelt materials. In their place? Fixed-length, heritage-style straps, available in braided rope or full-grain leather.

If you’ve read any of our other posts, you’ll know that we have been in the photographic industry for a very long time, and camera straps throughout our career have always been relatively boring and sterile accessories. So, it’s a breath of fresh air to see the multitude of choices now available across all genres of photography.

As a company, Peak Design has to cater to a wide range of generational tastes these days. Products must not only be functional, but they also need to cater for both young and older photographers. Most photographers would be happy with the fabulous Slide camera strap. In contrast, many younger photographers and those who carry lightweight cameras or those using film cameras seem to want a more simplistic accessory.

The Form line is split into two distinct categories: Rope and Leather. Unlike their other straps, both abandon the “one size fits all” approach and have instead offered fixed lengths (Neck, Short, Standard, and Long). Only time will tell whether this gamble will pay off. We can’t help but think that many customers will order the wrong length. 

Peak Design kindly sent us the Form Leather (Long) in Black and the Form Rope (Standard) in Ocean colourways for this review.

We’ve spent the last couple of weeks testing both the Form Rope and Form Leather to see if they value form over function, or if they successfully balance both.

FORM LEATHER

The Form Leather straps mark a departure from Peak Design’s usual aesthetic of straps constructed with seatbelt nylon and adjusters toward a classic, heritage style. They are fixed-length, non-adjustable straps designed for photographers who want the modern utility of the Anchor Link system without looking like they are wearing tactical gear. Instead, the defining feature is the “stitch-free” look. The leather is bonded and formed rather than sewn, giving it an incredibly clean, modern silhouette and is sourced from tanneries with the highest environmental standards regarding chemical use and water treatment. The strap also uses full-grain bovine leather rather than a vegan leather used in their phone cases. The underside of the strap features a “custom sealed finish,” designed to glide over clothing when you bring the camera to your eye.

Unlike the aluminium adjusters on the Slide or Leash straps, the hardware on the Form Leather is low-profile and integrated directly into the strap ends.

Available in Black, Tan, and Amber, catering to the “heritage” aesthetic that pairs well with lighter outfits such as Leica, Fujifilm, and retro-styled Sony/Nikon bodies.

• Quality: They use ECCO full-grain bovine leather. It’s initially stiff but breaks in after about a week of use.
• Finish: The edges are sealed, giving it a very clean, Apple-esque aesthetic compared to the raw edges of a generic leather strap.
• Hardware: CNC-machined anodised recycled aluminium
• Anchor Housings: Peak Design has engineered a new, ultra-low-profile Anchor housing made from Glass-reinforced nylon with machined aluminium accents.  The latest version is significantly slimmer, tapering directly from the strap material into the anchor link housing. It is injection-moulded directly onto the rope/leather, eliminating the need for stitching or bulky O-rings. 
• Anchors: New V5 anchors – Glass-reinforced nylon with multi-layer thermoplastic cord. Each anchor can withstand 90kg (200lb) of force; the overall strap is rated at 45kg (100lb). The anchors are backwards and cross-compatible with all of Peak Design’s straps

Because these straps do not adjust, you MUST buy the correct size. The Form Leather is available in Long, Standard, Short, or Neck. The lengths are as follows, and include the Anchors attached.

• Neck: ~30.9 inches (78.5cm)
• Short Crossbody: ~40.75 inches (103.5cm)
• Standard Crossbody: ~46.65 inches (118.5cm)
• Long Crossbody: ~52.75 inches (134cm)

Wearing

The Form Leather can be worn in multiple ways, depending on which length you purchase (eg, the neck length strap may not work as a crossbody strap). We have illustrated below using the Tan colourway, as it displays better than the Black.

CONCLUSION – FORM LEATHER

This is clearly Peak Design’s foray into the luxury heritage market, clearly targeting a discerning market that carries a lighter outfit. We must admit, the Peak Design Form Leather strap is a very attractive minimalist camera strap for those who want a stylish camera strap rather than the practical but bulkier Slide range of straps. It’s really different strokes for different folks here. Many photographers who have been using the Slide strap for a while will not be tempted by this strap, especially if their gear is on the heavy side. But for those who shoot with lighter mirrorless outfits or film cameras, these straps should be an extremely desirable option.

Would we use this strap? No, not for our everyday travel work, as our main combination – the Sony A7Riii with the 24-105mm f/4 lens, would be too uncomfortable to wear for 10-12-hour days. However, the strap is perfect for our lighter cameras, such as the Sony RX100 V and vintage film cameras we use occasionally.

FORM ROPE

The Rope variant feels distinctly modern yet retro. It uses a custom-braided nylon and polyester blend that is surprisingly soft—none of the scratchiness you find in cheaper climbing-rope straps. It has a slight amount of “give” or shock absorption, which makes carrying a heavier mirrorless setup more forgiving.

• Quality: Made from basket-woven nylon/poly rope with a diameter of 10mm. 
• Hardware:  CNC-machined anodised aluminium accessory loop.
  
• Anchor Housings: Glass-reinforced nylon with machined aluminium connection hardware. Peak Design has engineered a new, ultra-low-profile Anchor housing. The new version is significantly slimmer, tapering directly from the strap material into the anchor link housing. It is injection-moulded directly onto the rope/leather, eliminating the need for stitching or bulky O-rings. The anchor housing colour also matches the product colourway
• Anchors: Glass-reinforced nylon with multi-layer thermoplastic cord. Each Anchor can withstand over 90kg (200lbs) of force. Overall, the strap is rated at 82kg (180lbs) of force

CONCLUSION – FORM ROPE

The Peak Design Form Rope bridges the gap between ‘utilitarian gear’ and fashion ‘accessory.’ It solves the biggest problem with generic rope straps—bulky split rings and unreliable connections—by integrating the industry-leading Anchor Link system directly into the weave.

While the fixed length means you need to measure carefully before buying, the trade-off is a strap that feels incredibly premium, packs down small, and looks great on modern mirrorless bodies. If you prioritise speed and adjustability, stick with the Peak Design Slide or Slide Lite. But if you want the cleanest, most stylish carry solution that doesn’t compromise on gear safety, the Form Rope is a great option.

Yes, it comes at a premium price for a fixed-length strap, but you are paying for the materials and the seamless hardware integration. If you want a set-it-and-forget-it strap that looks as good as your camera performs, the Form Rope is an easy recommendation.

Would we use this strap? No, not for our everyday travel work, as our main combination – the Sony A7Riii with the 24-105mm f/4 lens, would be too uncomfortable to wear for 10-12-hour days. In fact, we have tested the rope strap with the above combination for a couple of hours and it was not as comfortable as our Slide strap. However, like the Form Leather, the Form Rope is perfect for our camera when used with lighter prime lenses and lighter cameras, such as the Sony RX100 V and vintage film cameras we use occasionally.
