INTRODUCTION
We love small minimalist bags. They are always a great accompaniment to larger bags that we carry when travelling. Many bag manufacturers are now offering smaller bags designed for everyday use.
The Peak Design Travel Crossbody 3L represents another bag in Peak Design’s small-volume sling lineup. Other slings in their lineup include the Everyday Sling 3L, City Sling 2L, Outdoor Sling 2L, and Outdoor Sling 4L. Unlike the camera-first design of the Everyday Sling series, which we still use as our everyday camera bags, the Travel Crossbody 3L, to a degree, retains the origami internal layout and organiser philosophy of the Peak Design Tech Pouch. This bag, however, seems to have morphed into a sleek, body-conforming sling tailored for daily travel and tech essentials.

THE EXTERIOR
Materials & Weather Resistance:
When researching the materials and sustainability of the Crossbody, we were quite surprised to learn that the fabric used for the Tech Pouch is a little more resilient than the material used in the Crossbody. The Crossbody uses weatherproof 100% recycled 330D nylon Versa Shell compared to 400D for the Tech Pouch. We can’t help but feel it should have been the other way around. We’re pretty certain this may have been done to save some weight, but we’re not sure. Side-by-side, the fabric of the Crossbody is far sleeker and more refined than the Tech Pouch. Mind you, this review is not about comparing the two as they both serve different needs, so we won’t mention it again.
The exterior has a DWR water-resistant finish. It’s not waterproof as such, but it’s damn close, and unless you are caught in a prolonged deluge, the contents should stay relatively dry.
External Hardware:
The exterior hardware, as per usual, employs abrasion-resistant UltraZips paired with custom anodised aluminium hardware.
Low-Profile Silhouette:
Measuring approximately 27 × 18 × 8 cm, its shallow depth keeps it flat against the body.
Crossbody Strap:
The bag features an adjustable swivel strap that can be adjusted between 70 and 135cm in length.
Pockets:
The bag only features a single external pocket (Quick Access Stash). Nevertheless, it is deep and wide, so it will hold quite a bit. However, the entrance, which is no more than a horizontal slit (see image to the right), is not zippered but instead is closed with magnets. Beware if caught in a downpour, as water may ingress into this pocket.

Regardless, it is a great place to stash your mobile phone, lip balm, sunglasses, or any other frequently accessed items. As this side of the bag is the closest to your body, we suggest not stashing any bulky items that make the bag bulge, which could make it uncomfortable to wear as a crossbody.

THE INTERIOR
The core feature of the Travel Crossbody 3L is its clamshell-style main compartment with origami-style internal dividers. Instead of a large open cavity, the interior is split into structured zones:
Entry to the main compartment is via the dual-zipper at the top of the bag. As mentioned in the introduction, the interior design is similar to the interior of the Peak Design Tech Pouch but with fewer pockets.
Back Interior Wall
On the back interior wall, the only zippered pocket is located. This spacious pocket also houses two equally-sized floating pockets. There’s also a small hidden Airtag pocket that sits underneath the zippered flap. Inside the main compartment of this pocket, there is a key lanyard.

Front Interior Wall
On the opposite side of the interior are three equally-sized elastic floating pockets plus an upper pen/stylus slot.
Main Compartment
In the centre of the interior is a divider that gives the interior an origami layout. When the bag is opened, you will have two distinct storage areas on each side of the divider and two smaller storage areas within the divider. The divider has the appearance of a skinny letter X, with the sides of the X being the larger storage areas and the top and bottom of the X being the smaller storage areas. These pockets are perfect for cables, power banks, AirPods, wall chargers, and small tech items.
All in all, there are heaps of pockets to separate all your items, albeit nothing too bulky. There’s not really enough room for a camera, though a smaller one, such as the Sony RX100 series, Fujifilm X100 series, Ricoh GR series, or Leica Q series, will fit nicely inside. However, because the bag is structured around a shallow 8 cm exterior profile, cameras with extended lens hoods or bulky zoom lenses may not allow the zipper to close. If you shoot with a lens hood attached at all times, a dedicated camera sling is a better choice.

PROS & CONS
There isn’t, in our opinion, anything to dislike about this bag, based on what it has been designed for, but no bag is perfect. So here are our Pros & Cons. Some of the Cons may not necessarily be an issue for some.
PROS

- Structured Depth Limitations: While marketed primarily as a travel/everyday sling, its internal space only allows for compact photography gear
- Inflexible Rigidity: The origami dividers dictate how you pack. It does not easily stretch to accommodate bulky or odd-shaped items like a water bottle, rain jacket, or large camera lens
- Exterior Pocket: The exterior pocket is not zipper-sealed and therefore not entirely weatherproof

THE FINAL WORD
The Peak Design Travel Crossbody 3L sits in a unique spot: it is essentially Peak Design’s celebrated Tech Pouch converted into a sleek, wearable sling. Rather than acting as a traditional open bucket bag, it provides a robust internal structure optimised for meticulous organisation.
This sling is tailored for organisational purists and minimalists. If you like every cable, key, card, and device to have a dedicated pocket, the Travel Crossbody 3L excels. It works brilliantly as an in-flight personal item or a small urban crossbody bag for keeping high-value essentials secure and immediately accessible.
If you prefer a flexible main compartment to drop in bulky, irregular items—such as a water bottle, a folded jacket, or a larger mirrorless camera body with a zoom lens—this bag is not for you. We’ve used it a couple of times with our vintage Voigtländer Vitomatic IIa film camera with a fixed 50mm lens, and although it fits, it is not ideal due to the bag’s slim profile. We have found that it is more suited for the likes of our Sony RX100V camera. The fixed internal dividers prioritise compartmentalisation over raw, open volume. Additionally, because the strap lacks padding, it is less suited for carrying heavy loads over long distances.
Ultimately, the Travel Crossbody 3L achieves exactly what it sets out to do: it brings Peak Design’s signature organisational precision to a minimal, weather-resistant personal carry. As long as your gear fits within its structured layout, it stands out as one of the sleekest everyday travel companions available.
If carrying camera gear is important for you, we suggest the Peak Design Everyday Sling 3L, which features customisable FlexFold dividers and a deeper, expandable volume. It is better suited to carrying interchangeable-lens mirrorless cameras, lenses with hoods, or bulkier items. Alternatively, the Peak Design Outdoor Sling 4L features a lightweight Terra Shell ripstop fabric with a more open interior cavity. It is designed for active outdoors, hiking, and flexible day-trip carry.
But as mentioned above, the Travel Crossbody 3L hits the mark based on what it has been designed for, and on that basis we can find few complaints.
Would we use the Travel Crossbody 3L? Yes, we would definitely use it for those minimalist days when we only want to head out with our mobile phone or the Sony RX100V. For other photography days, we will continue to use something a little larger, such as our Peak Design Everyday Sling 10L or Peak Design Everyday Tote 15L bags.
