Stills photography has been our life since the early 80’s. We can count on one hand how many times we have taken video with our cameras – it just has not been our thing. Although we have 4K available at the touch of a button we do not see the world in moving images, only as frozen moments in time. In addition, we shudder at the thought of being on the opposite side of the camera, so vlogging has never been a consideration for us.

This review will be a revelation for us, and hopefully informative for those taking their first plunge into vlogging and want a tool that will elevate their video footage.

We were approached by Hohem recently and asked if we would be interested in promoting their range of camera gimbals. They graciously sent us their flagship model – the iSteady MT2 Gimbal Kit for this review. Mounting a Camera

Mounting a camera onto the Hohem iSteady MT2 gimbal is a straightforward process, designed to give you shooting smooth and stable footage in no time. Being newbies to video we found it a little challenging to get the camera balanced, however, once we were familiar with all the locks it was a bit easier. If you are using the gimbal with several devices you will need to make minor adjustments to the balancing for each device. If you use only one device with the same lens, you should only have to balance the camera once, although the adjustment on the L-bracket may need adjustments each time you attach the device.

We’re not going to highlight every feature and how it functions in this post, as it would be too long. Needless to say, the Hohem iSteady MT2 Gimbal has mightily impressed us with its design, features, and results. As non-videographers, the product has opened our eyes to a whole world of possibilities should we decide to take that path. The only negative we have is that we found it a bit frustrating getting the balance right, so it has been a real learning curve for us, and this may be the case for anyone who has not used a gimbal before. 

UPDATE: We ended up finding the MT2 too large and cumbersome and difficult to balance, so we sold it. The MT2 has now been superseded by the MT3, offering a higher payload capacity, a built-in AI vision sensor, and an improved stabilisation algorithm.
