Blast from the past. Taken in Rach Gia in the Meko Blast from the past. Taken in Rach Gia in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam, in February 1994. Not sure which one of us took this, but it doesn't really matter anyway. Rạch Giá functions as a major fishing port and a vital commercial hub for the maritime industry in southwestern Vietnam. The city is home to a large fleet of commercial fishing vessels that head out into the Gulf of Thailand for offshore and deep-sea fishing. Nowadays, modern urban planning has shifted some aspects of the active port areas and markets toward the city’s outskirts; the maritime and fishing identity remains deeply embedded in the local culture, economy, and cuisine.
